Mamaishness

This one’s for the mamas.

reading group for moms

Y’all. I found the coolest thing today. Thanks to a Facebook rabbit trail, I learned about a new online book group, hosted by Gidget Goes Home. The goal is to read all of Jane Austen’s novels (there are six) in 2014, and then discuss them through the lens of motherhood. While I imagine we’ll still be swooning over Mr. Darcy, I think it’s a neat idea to think about them as mothers, rather than as 20 year olds with a lack of romance in our lives.

There’s probably also room for discussion of these in a post-Bridget Jones world, but that’s not the point, so I might just have to post here about that, and not bother the other, more intellectual participants.

Pride and Prejudice is first. I’ll be reading that super awesome Dover Thrift Edition you see up there, because it’s what I already own. It doesn’t matter which edition you read, just read it! Click here to join the Facebook group, where discussion will occur, and you can see what’s going on.

I think this is brilliant and exciting and exactly my sort of New Year’s Resolution, a whole month early. Look! I’m not procrastinating, for quite possibly the first time ever. Let me know if you decide to join in.
